TRADITION WITH A UNIQUE APPROACH
The Nutcracker Ballet Performance
Orlando, FL For the 12th year, Russian Ballet of Orlando will bring Central Florida its annual production of Vadim Fedotov’s mesmerizing ballet The Nutcracker. Fedotov’s choreography never ceases to amaze the audience with unique features incorporated in a traditional Christmas story; this year the performance will include a few new surprises along with breathtaking music, extraodinary sets, and splendid Russian Method Ballet.
The Nutcraker ballet has been fascinating the audiences of all ages for over one hundred years all over the world, since its premiere at the Maryinsky Theater, St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1892. Set in Germany, the story is filled with mystery, adventure, and surprise. The Nutcracker tells a story of a young girl named Clara and her magical doll. One Christmas Eve, the mysterious Dr. Drosselmeyer arrives at Clara’s family Chirstmas party and presents the girl with a special gift: a wooden nutcracker. After the party, as the clock strikes midnight, Clara awakens to find the room filled with mice. TheNutcracker comes to her rescue and a fierce battle ensures as the Nutcracker leades the toy soldiers against the mice and their leader, the evil King Rat. Clara saves theNutcracker from the King Rat wih her ballet slipper and breaks the spell of a wooden doll that transforms into a handsome prince and takes Clara on a magical journey. Featuring fascinating scenery, costumes, and Russian method ballet dancers, theNutcracker re-introduces the public to the power of classical ballet and keeps the audience of all ages on the edge of their seats, as the story spirals into unpredictable whirl of advenutre and excitement.
Young Dancers Sharing the Stage with Ballet Stars
This year, Russian Ballet of Orlando held special auditions to involve dancers of different ballet backgrounds, as well as students from the Russian Academy of Ballet who have gone through intensive Vaganova method ballet training. Those dancers will be sharing the stage with world renowned Sergey Mikhailov, principal dancer with the National Ballet of Ukraine. The Nutcraker will be presented in its full complexity with the precision of Vadim Fedotov’s choreography, whose ballet productions have consistently gained worldwide fame over the past 25 years.
Locations
The show will start off December 4th at the Plaza Live, formally known as Plaza Theater, where the Nutcracker debuted for the first time 12 years ago. This location has been Orlando’s landmark for the city’s best live productions for decades.
On December 10th, Russian Ballet will bring its traditional performance to the East Orlando community for the first time, presenting the show at the auditorium of Timber Creek High School.
December 17th, the Nutcracker will be presented as a gift to Orlando community with a traditional free performance at Disney Amphitheater at Lake Eola. This location has been a tradition for the Nutcracker production for the past 8 years, celebrating Christmas with Orlando families and bringing classical ballet to the community.
December 18th, the Russian Ballet of Orlando will be ending the year of 2011 with theNutcracker performance at the Sunrise Civic Theatre.
